'Twas the night before Christmas

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;
The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads;
And mamma in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled down for a long winter's nap,
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.
The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below,
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer,
With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;
"Now, Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! on Cupid! on, Donder and Blitzen!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!"
As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky,
So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,
With the sleigh full of toys, and St. Nicholas too.
And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound.
He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot;
A bundle of toys he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler just opening his pack.
His eyes -- how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow;
The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath;
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
That shook, when he laughed like a bowlful of jelly.
He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself;
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread;
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings; then turned with a jerk,
And laying his finger aside of his nose,

And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose;
He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,
"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night."

Merry Christmas to all EU Partners and Participants

As the Director of The Training Partnership it falls to me to wish you all  a wonderful Christmas and  a very successful and fulfilling New Year.  2013 has seen The Training Partnership go from strength to strength and I would like to thank all of our  EU Partners and their Participants for helping to  make this such a successful year.  We have seen an increase in numbers not just with Students and Partners but also in the number of staff we employ.
I am sure everyone involved will agree that the Training Partnership Staff are without doubt, fantastic; they are always prepared to go that extra mile to ensure that our EU Partners and Participants are happy and enjoy their experience here in the UK. I am immensely proud of every member of staff and applaud  their commitment to the work they do in such a professional, caring and friendly manner . I would also like to extend these thanks to all of our host families and work placements', to Kevin and Brian who organise our transport for us, and all involved in the service we are so proud to provide -  everyone has done a remarkable job in maintaining the high standards that we pride ourselves on. We could not do it without you!

As I sit here at my desk writing this  I am aware that in one of our training rooms the Staff and Participants are enjoying the last 2013  weekly student meeting (a Christmas Craft Party) before the Christmas break.  Although sad to see such a successful year come to an end I am thrilled to be able to thank all of our Partner for helping to make The Training Partnership what it is today.  The Staff and I always try to give of our very best and I would like to re-assure you that this will also be the case for 2014.

May I wish everyone a wonderful Christmas and a very Happy New Year

Best wishes

Jayne

You think English is easy?

I found this on the internet and have no idea who wrote it, whoever it was, thank you!

Read all the way to the end.................
This took a lot of work to put together!
1) The bandage was wound around the wound.

2) The farm was used to produce produce.

3) The dump was so full that it had to refuse more refuse.

4) We must polish the Polish furniture..

5) He could lead if he would get the lead out.

6) The soldier decided to desert his dessert in the desert..

7) Since there is no time like the present, he thought it was time to present the present.

 8) A bass was painted on the head of the bass drum.

9) When shot at, the dove dove into the bushes.

10) I did not object to the object.

11) The insurance was invalid for the invalid.

12) There was a row among the oarsmen about how to row.

13) They were too close to the door to close it.

14) The buck does funny things when the does are present.

15) A seamstress and a sewer fell down into a sewer line.

16) To help with planting, the farmer taught his sow to sow.

17) The wind was too strong to wind the sail.

18) Upon seeing the tear in the painting I shed a tear..

19) I had to subject the subject to a series of tests.

20) How can I intimate this to my most intimate friend?

Let's face it - English is a crazy language. There is no egg in eggplant, nor ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in pineapple. English muffins weren't invented in England or French fries in France . Sweetmeats are candies while sweetbreads, which aren't sweet, are meat. We take English for granted. But if we explore its paradoxes, we find that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig.

And why is it that writers write but fingers don't fing, grocers don't groce and hammers don't ham? If the plural of tooth is teeth, why isn't the plural of booth, beeth? One goose, 2 geese. So one moose, 2 meese? One index, 2 indices? Doesn't it seem crazy that you can make amends but not one amend? If you have a bunch of odds and ends and get rid of all but one of them, what do you call it?

If teachers taught, why didn't preachers praught? If a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a humanitarian eat? Sometimes I think all the English speakers should be committed to an asylum for the verbally insane. In what language do people recite at a play and play at a recital? Ship by truck and send cargo by ship? Have noses that run and feet that smell?
How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and a wise guy are opposites? You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language in which your house can burn up as it burns down, in which you fill in a form by filling it out and in which, an alarm goes off by going on.

English was invented by people, not computers, and it reflects the creativity of the human race, which, of course, is not a race at all. That is why, when the stars are out, they are visible, but when the lights are out, they are invisible.

PS. - Why doesn't 'Buick' rhyme with 'quick'?

It made me smile and I hope you did too :0)

GROWEurope - recruitment begins!

SO what’s been happening in the busy world of The Training Partnership ltd?…well I’m glad you asked! This week we had our 2013 selection day for our outbound GROWEurope programme. GROWEurope stands for ‘Gain Real Opportunity Within Europe’ , it is a 13 week fully funded ‘Mobility’ programme designed to address the need for recent graduates to bridge the gap between academic studies and practical experience.
TTPL has secured UK work placements for over 900 European students this year and felt it would be brilliant if we could send UK young people to France and Germany to gain similar experiences in Europe.

We had a great response and received a varied selection of graduates from all over the UK. The selection criteria is based upon motivation and commitment, and required the applicants to express why they should be given this fantastic opportunity.

The potential applicants arrived here on Thursday, and underwent a full day of activities. It all started with a warm welcome and a detailed introduction to how the GROWEurope programme works and ended with an interview in their chosen language.  Although they looked nervous at first, our applicants soon came out of their shells and interacted with our European Partners chatting about themselves, their experiences and their future goals.

After careful consideration we have now chosen our successful participants and can’t wait to get them started. This experience will help them improve their CV, personal skills and employability whilst giving them a lifetime memory they will not forget! The 13 weeks includes 2 weeks of language and cultural training here in the TTPL office Torquay, then 10 weeks of professional work experience in either Toulouse or Leipzig. The programme will begin in January 2014, with our participants flying out for their cultural experience early February. Stay tuned for updates on how they get on, or why not add us on Facebook and Pinterest to see their experience in pictures.

Networking - a students perspective.

Networking is an integral part of our daily business activity, it is also very important to maintain our presence in the business community. It was, therefore, very interesting to get a different view of what we do...one of our students who carried out her placement with Alison Benney of Enlighten HR agreed to write a short comparison of English and German business meetings.
So here in her own words, is a different view of Networking by Lara Loeschmann
Business meeting England – Germany

My first business meeting in England was in Cockington. At first everybody went in a room, ate breakfast and had some small talk. In my opinion it was a nice beginning, but the small talk was at first curious. Because the people wanted to know many background information of my life. I thought why do they want to know so many things about my life? I asked one women why and she said: “To build business networks I have to know the person, I don’t like smokers or drunkard people.”  In Germany nobody in case of business networks is interested in your private life. The main things are your abilities. After the breakfast we went in the presentation room. The presentation was about trademarks. Sometimes it was hard for me to follow but I think I understood the main content.
Furthermore I went to a network meeting. At first I thought it has something to do with computers, but it’s a meeting for building some business relationships. We met in a nice hotel and had some small talk with coffee and tea. I think we were about 10 people. In case of small talk the people in England are open-minded, polite and friendly.  I don’t know something like that from Germany, but in my mind it’s good to build new business relationships, stay in contact with people, present yourself and get to know some other companies. The people will think about you and your business and maybe they’ll recommend your company to someone else.

So...it seems to me that the main difference is the 'small-talk', which is very interesting. The ability to indulge in information gathering chitchat prior to establishing a business relationship is the way we do stuff here. We all try to find common ground and then build on that - we do the best business with the people we like - what a great way to do business!

Work Placements and Opportunities

As another week draws to a close it is really good to see that we have been given a great article in our local newspaper The Herald Express - a bit of a shock to see a full page picture (we knew that we had an article to be published)  but great all the same, and brilliant to have such a good 'European Opportunities' and 'Workplace Options' article in the press! The guys in the office are still participating in 'Movember' and getting a bit itchy - only another two weeks :0)

Nadine and Debbie have been to Croatia and will be back with us next week - more about their trip in the next blog but I'm sure it will have been an interesting and exciting week for them. Wendy and Ian spent a day at Paignton Zoo with Powerful Performance - an interesting and engaging Leadership and Management workshop asking 'Are you the Silverback in your business' - an excellent day.

We have also had two teachers from Kiel in Germany visiting and I'm pleased to say that they have had an enjoyable week here in Torbay -
their group are all very happy and we have been out visiting them in their work placements - a really good few days.

Our Autumn Newsletter is out and I hope you have had the opportunity to have a look at it.
More next week but for now...stay safe and have a great weekend!

Meet the Team - Andrea, our Accommodation & Welfare Officer.

Hello everybody...my name is Andrea Tolson and my role within the Training Partnership is Accommodation & Welfare.  This year has been extremely busy as we have had over 900 students and my task is to find host family accommodation for each and every one of them.

My job entails visiting and inspecting new host applicants and making sure that our students get the best possible experience.  Most host families I visit are lovely people who are happy to let students come and live in their homes and participate in their family lives.  I enjoy meeting the new hosts and chatting with them which helps me decide whether they will be suitable to look after our students.  Sadly I also visit some homes that are unsuitable   but don’t worry, I would never place a student in a home in which I wouldn't be happy to place my own children.

On a daily basis I receive student files from our work placement team and I then have to decide which host would be the most suitable for that particular student.  I base my decision on proximity to the students work placement so that they don’t have too long a journey to work each day.  I also have to consider which friends they want to share with and whether they have any allergies.  It is amazing how many host families have pets and how many students are allergic to animals.  I then have to key all information onto our computer system and produce detailed directions for the student so that they can find their way to work from their host family address.

On a personal note, I am used to dealing with teenagers as I have three of my own, all living at home with me and my husband.  I must say that (like most Mothers), some of the students I meet through the Training Partnership I would happily swap with my own teenagers - sometimes mine can be a nightmare (like most teenagers!).  But then again I was a teenager myself - a long time ago…. Say no more!

The love of my life is my beautiful Golden Retriever “Oscar”.  He is no trouble whatsoever. He does as he is told, doesn't answer back and never asks me for money! When I am not at work there is nothing better than going out at the weekends for long walks along the South Devon Coastal paths and beaches, getting lots of fresh air and enjoying the spectacular scenic views that south Devon has to offer. Afterwards I will cook a delicious dinner and open a nice bottle of Red! Life is good!

Movember is moving on!

Well the first thing we need to look at this week is the TTPL Movember moment...Hmmmmm I think Sam might be cheating!!! But the whiskers are progressing so please donate - its all for a very good cause! Have a look here on our TTPL Movember page.
This week also gave us the chance to present the prizes from last weeks Halloween party - Bea and Donatello were both worthy winners and we hope they enjoy their prizes...in fact, Donatello insisted on making an acceptance speech! Absolutely AMAZING! Well done both of you!
In 'other news' this week we have been out and about at Plymouth University Graduate Recruitment Fair - we still have a few places left for the fantastic GROWEurope project which will begin in January 2014.
We also attended the Institute of Hospitality 75th Anniversary dinner - a great evening at South Devon College Horizon Restaurant in conjunction with Mitch Tonks fantastic seafood event. Thanks to Brian from Number One Consulting for the invitation.

Have a great weekend and please stay safe...

Happy Halloween - a fun week for staff and students

This week we celebrated Halloween...and what a lot of fun we had!

Sam, our Student Support Officer, really threw himself into the fun and organised a big party at a local bar - DTs in Torquay. On Wednesday we challenged him to create a Spooky Pumpkin with our logo and wow, what a result!

The party started early for any students who wanted to arrive early with any questions or travel refunds then went on into the night...Karaoke was the order of the day, with lots of amazing fancy dress costumes...lots of pics on our Facebook page here and a not so tuneful rendition of American Idiot that is her for you to 'enjoy'!

Thanks to all the students who turned up to create an fantastic fun party!

Finally...congratulations to Bea and Donatello who won the prizes for Fancy Dress - well done :0)
Have a great weekend everyone - stay safe and have fun

Torbay Hi Tech Forum MTI 13

Last Thursday we had a stand at the Torbay Hi Tech Forum at the RICC, and what a fabulous event it was. Such positivity and forward thinking. A really great opportunity to catch up with old friends and colleagues - and of course meet new people and find out what they do.
From a business perspective it was an incredibly successful day - our stand looked great, we had some great support from so many of our  business partners and the buzz from meeting young people just setting out on their career path was fantastic.
During the day we were able to speak to a great many people representing businesses from around the area and engage with some really positive young people who will very soon be entering the world of work and perhaps even travelling with TTPL on one of our outbound programmes like the current GROWEurope project.

Our sincere thanks Steve Harper from Bay Light Vehicle for this great testimonial to what we can achieve with our students...Brilliant

Wendy, our Finance Director (and not at all boring)

Still smiling....even after paying the wages!
Working at The Training Partnership is very rewarding in lots of ways and you’ll usually find everyone here at TTPL are a cheerful bunch, but there’s an extra spring in their step today because it’s payday! [editors note: WOOHOOOO]  So as Finance Director paying the wages was one of my most important tasks this week! [oh yes!]  As it’s payday I’m meeting an old colleague from my banking days for a real English ‘pub lunch’ at the Devon Dumpling in Shiphay (sorry Mitch – I’m not implying you’re old . . . .)

The student meeting yesterday was a great success – around 80 students from across Europe joined together in a friendly but competitive atmosphere at AMF Bowling.
The main reason for the weekly meeting is ensuring our students are happy and getting the most from their experience so it’s always great to go along and see what is happening.  Our Student Support Officer, Sam (King of Bowling) Swann has been with us a month already and is making a great impact
Well done Ladies...have a safe trip home.
 ‘It's always "wunderbar" to get to know someone whose personality actually matches so much with what they are doing jobwise’,

He was kept busy running around organising lanes and chatting to everyone but unfortunately his self-proclaimed title has already been stolen by our very own Lorenzo  . . . .
I was really please to present Certificates of Achievement to our wonderful ladies from Germany who have been here for just 2 weeks on a Mobility for Professionals in Vocational Education and Training.  They have been learning about the very different ways Education is provided in an ‘inclusive’ manner here in the UK and despite Nadine’s driving, the trips to Dame Hannah’s and the Husbandry school were most enjoyable.
Earlier in the week along with Nadine and Lorenzo we met up with Olly and Charlie from Optix Solutions who are  busy designing a brand new website for TTPL – it’s very exciting and we’re really happy to be working with them.  Just to keep us on the right tracks Dan from Astley Media came along too.  It’s early days yet, so watch this space for our launch in the new year.

Next week is half term for our local schools, so I’ll be splitting my time between the office and home.  My 2 boys have made plans and following last weekends trip to PaigntonZoo we’re off to the Model Village on the final leg of the Great Gorillas, the newly reopened Plainmoor swimming pool and a trip to the ‘Golden M’ is promised too!  Plus I’ve got to squeeze in some study time for my ‘CIMA’ exam coming up next month. Wish me luck!

Have a great weekend everyone

Jackie Bufton - our Educational Expert!

We have, for many years, had the benefit of an educational consultant who has developed may of our programmes and added huge value to the experience our Students and Trainees have enjoyed... here is an opportunity to find out what makes our Jackie tick :0)
I have worked in Education and Training for over 25 years and have advanced experience of delivery, assessment and quality assurance of learning.  I also conduct quality assurance work for three different UK Awarding Organisations.  In addition to this I still do what I love and that is deliver learning to groups of people on a face to face basis, but also remotely via the Internet.    The remote work I do is generally using a Moodle platform, which I not only use as a trainer to support students, but also develop for  organisations such as the Training Partnership Ltd.   My face to face delivery covers a whole selection of interesting subjects that range from: Business and IT, English and Culture, Environment and Art/Craft.  And interestingly sometimes I get to mix the subjects, so for example IT and the Environment when teaching people how to use GPS/GIS systems, or Environment and Art/Craft with the outside being used as the subject for the Art/Craft.  One of my favourite craft subjects is working with glass, and I have a studio where I work with stained, fused or kiln formed glass.

In my spare time I like to go walking, which I do with my little dog Tansy, or go out and about in my old VW camper van.  When I am out in the countryside I sometimes incorporate foraging or Geocaching – both are great fun!

Meet the Team...a day in the life of Gemma Davey

Hi everyone,
Well firstly let me introduce myself…My name is Gemma and I’m the Student Co-ordinator here at The Training Partnership.
This morning was a particularly busy one! We had our monthly staff meeting first thing, followed by three training sessions; Graduate Teacher training for our Spanish Teachers, and Conversational English for our groups from Kulturlife and MTU in Germany. Debbie (Programme Manager) and I make sure everything is well organised before the sessions start with the help of Lorenzo, our Office Administrator, and our new Student Support Officer, Sam, who meets and greets the trainees as they arrive. We also held a ‘Departure Meeting’ today for our trainees from MTU to present their certificates and say goodbye and good luck to them all!
In between the various meetings my daily tasks include co-ordinating arrivals and departures, arranging training and travel passes, dealing with enquiries from trainees, administration tasks and supporting Debbie (Programme Manager) with the organisation of our Programmes. The great thing about my role is that I get to work closely with all members of the TTPL team as well as dealing with a variety of people outside of the office, from trainees and Partners to local businesses and host families.
I also supervise our trainees working with us in the office by showing them the ropes when they first arrive and giving them plenty of tasks to ensure they have a worthwhile work experience with us. We love having trainees in our office; it creates a great working atmosphere. But it’s not always a case of us training them - we learn a lot from them too! They teach us so much about their own cultures and customs which I find fascinating. Sadly we do often have to say “goodbye” as trainees come and go throughout the year, and today we had to say farewell to Ramona from WMF in Germany. She’s been so lovely to work with and such a hard worker - we’ll all miss her!

Hello Sam!

A big hello to everyone out there!
My name is Sam, I’m 25 and I’m the new Student Services Officer here at TTPL.
I graduated from Southampton Solent University in May where I gained a First Class Honours in International Tourism Management and I am now eager to get stuck into this vital role. I am a cheerful chap, loud, excitable and potentially annoying as I like to be a part of everything and anything.  I live for football and worship the mighty Torquay United but I also enjoy the “quieter” things in life like snowboarding, live music and socialising with my crazy friends. I am passionate about Torquay and the surrounding area and encourage you all to explore my home town and learn about our history and GeoPark status (Yes I am a secret geek/ecowarrior).

I have been working with international students both abroad and in the UK since I was 17 and love meeting new people, hearing about the differences in our lives and learning about different cultures and traditions. If you have any pointless facts about your country that will enhance my quiz knowledge please tweet me @TTPLsupport. On a serious note my role here at TTPL is to make sure our trainees have the best possible experience.  I am a firm believer in the benefits of work placement experiences and want you to create happy memories that last for a lifetime whilst developing your career potential. To ensure your experience is an amazing one, I need to know how you are, how your work placement is, your host family, is there anything bothering you and what can we do better?  Information is vital and without hearing your views I’m afraid I cannot help you. I promise I don’t bite and although I might look strange I assure you I’m nice and your welfare is what is important to me. I am here to help, support and aid your stay here in Devon, so please please please email, call or come and visit me in the TTPL office and let me know how you are today!!!

So...Welcome Sam, from all of us at TTPL

September starts!

On Monday one of our groups spent their last day at the brand new and very interesting SW Energy Centre in Paignton...if you have not been I urge you to go and have a look around - I am certain that one of the team there will be only too happy to show you around. Before they left the Italian 'Eurocentro' group felt they had to say "Goodbye Torquay"

We also said farewell to a number of our students this week, among them our student Daniel - he will be missed, he made a real impact here in the office and has produced some excellent project work for us. Auf Wiedersehen Daniel!
The student meeting this week was a great afternoon bowling at AMF Bowling inTorquay, it is always great to see so many students all having fun together...and even having their own competitions! I overheard two students (who will remain nameless) bowling to decide who would clean the kitchen when they got back to their host family! So nice to see such competitive spirit put to such good use. Our weekly meetings are such an integral part of our students experience - if anyone has any ideas for an interesting venue please let us know.

The 'and finally' this week is about Social Media - you have probably read this blog via Facebook or Twitter but did you know we have a Pinterest page and a You Tube channel...please have a look and follow us or even just take a peek. Tell us what you are doing and tag us in your pictures. Have fun, enjoy yourselves and don't forget to let us know. Enjoy the weekend, and hope to hear from you very soon.
Bye for now!

Vicky the Finance Officer!

Hi I’m Vicky the Finance Officer at TTPL. Thanks to my bosses I’m having a great summer with my 3 daughters!  Thank you bosses!! You see they allow me to work school hours during term time and two days (9am-5pm) each week when the girls are on holiday, which is brilliant!! I’m so lucky!!  I’ve been on bikes rides, walking on the moors, kayaking, lazing on the beach, going to the cinema, shopping, visiting friends, eating out (not so good for my waistline but I love food!!), staying up late and having a great time with my girls.  I also got to lead a TTPL organised trip to Woodlands for some of our participants, it was great.  The best bit was whizzing down the death slide. Boy did I scream! What a buzz!! I also liked the Owl display, they were so beautiful and you got so close to them, it was fab!  I have to say I have also enjoyed going to work, its given me a couple of days to rest my bones!

A Fizzy 'Well Done', a Bank Holiday and a Fully Funded Work Experience - What Could be Better?

This week we had some very good news....we are having yet another record year! We currently have booked 886 students - a real achievement for our team. To mark this milestone the Directors got us all a little pressie :0) This is, I know, very much appreciated by all the team who have worked so hard to make this happen - also huge thanks must go to our wonderful Host Families and Work Placements - without whom we would not be able to do what we do!
It is also an ideal time to have a little glass of fizz to celebrate the Bank Holiday!  Happy Days!

Included in this amazing number are a group of students from Italy - this group are here for Language Training and to experience our local area, both culturally and from a business perspective; so far we have visited, the brilliant Paignton Zoo, The Golden Hind in Brixham, Torquay Museum and many other places planned for the coming week. We also spent an afternoon at MGVP, using recording equipment and generally learning about the media/film industry...the outcome of this experience was a collection of individual videos which you can see on our TTPL YouTube Channel and this 5 second clip.... We are so pleased that you 'Love Torquay' - we think it is a special place too!

To end this weeks blog I would like to draw your attention to a fantastic opportunity for any UK based recent Graduates...we have been successful in obtaining funding to send a group of students to France or Germany for a fully Funded 13 week program that will change lives - so if you are, or you know, a recent Graduate who has a basic understanding of French or German ask them to get in touch with us...don't wait too long as spaces are limited....Have a great weekend and stay safe - see you next time.

A day in the Life - Mia Carus

Where to begin... It usually only takes me 10 minutes to get to the Training Partnership offices and once there it is straight to work.   If I’m not doing Work Placement Starts for students, then I start the day off by checking my emails, usually it is confirmation from one of our companies offering a placement to a student or requests for a specific skill or project, which is always exciting.  Then it’s a case of checking through  files and finding a work placement that matches the trainees requirements - which quite often is a challenge, but always rewarding!  Once the students are placed there is paperwork to do sending out Work Placement Agreements and making sure they all have the necessary Health and Safety Details before they are placed.  Then of course there is the Itinerary to arrange so all the students know how and when they are going to get to their Companies on their first day! So important when you are in a new country!
We have Welcome Meetings most weeks, normally in the afternoons but when there are a lot of students it could be mornings too!  Some students like to have a UK bank account and need to be taken to the Bank to obtain English Bank Accounts.

There are also Team Meetings to attend to catch up on the week’s events, which are always interesting and give us the opportunity to check on every one of our trainees.  Occasionally there are problems to deal with, so listening to the students and trying to resolve, to the best of my ability, their worries regarding work is an important part of my role!  These are the main tasks that fill my days at work – believe me, life here is never dull – challenging and hectic are the main adjectives I would use; however, as busy as we are I wouldn't change a thing.

Students meet at meetings!

We love our Student Meetings, an opportunity for a bit of fun, to relax with all of our visitors and a chance for them to talk to us about anything they need to know about...for our students, well, in their own words...
"our weekly student meetings are great because you can see all of your friends and maybe make some new ones. The activities we do are great too, as we visited the beautiful Cockington Court and went on a boat trip around Torbay"
Sandra

"An ideal place to have fun, exchanging views & thoughts for the upcoming meetings and mentored by the dedicated Staff."
Martens

"There is nothing better than Thursday students meetings. Not only you can take a break from your work, but also enjoy the afternoon with friends, meet new people and have fun every week with a new interesting social activity."       Lorenzo
